Title: The Thirty-nine steps
Author: John Buchan
Summary:
I’ve read the book: The Thirty-nine Steps. The story begins with a man called Scudder. This man works for an American newspaper and knows the plans of the Germans for a war. As Scudder again followed by German spies (these spies want to kill Scudder because he knows too much about their plans), he goes into the flat of Richard Hannay and tell him about the things that he knows of the plans of the Germans.
When Hannay goes out of his flat, the German spies are watching him. He was afraid and run away from that place. When he came back in his flat, Scudder was murdered. He took on the task of Scudder and tried to prevent the war. An adventure awaits him…
When he sat in the train, people watch him and once a time a man knows him. Hannay jumped out of the train and ran away from the rails. He saw a house and went into it. He slept there and the next day he went to the south. When the German spies arrived at that place, the man who lived in that house, say nothing. So it went day after day.
In Scudders’ notebook was wrote, that he must meet an man called Walter (the fisherman), this man told him more about the plans of the Germans. With the information of Hannay and Mr. Walter, they met important people and together they came to a discovery. But during the meeting there was a man posing as Lord Alloa, but he wasn’t, he was a German spy. This man left and after a while Hannay discovered that this man was a fake. Everyone was worried…
Hannay devised a plan and they go to a place at the east-coast. There he was thinking about his plan, but he did it anyway. He claimed the plan successfully, and the men were arrested.
