Sue Welford was born in Sussex and attended Lewes Grammar School for Girls where the teachers soon despaired of her. 'All I ever wanted to do,' she admits, 'was to read books, make up stories and listen to rock music. They didn't seem to mind the first two but the third was definitely out!'
Most of Sue's time is still spent writing, reading and listening to rock music. She does still find time each day to walk the black Labrador and Jack Russell terrier along the beautiful beaches close to her home in New Zealand.
Sue has published six titles with Oxford; Out of the Blue, The Shadow of August, Starlight City, Nowhere to Run, Turning Point, and The Night After Tomorrow. The Night After Tomorrow won the Angus Book Award in 1996.
In 2002 watch out for Sue's two new titles published by Oxford University Press. Whispers on the Wind, published in January 2002 and Waiting for Mermaids, published in September 2002.
