The pearl door John Steinbeck

Kino is a poor Indian who lives in a brush house near the sea with his wife Juana and his little son Coyotito in a village called La Paz. One day a scorpion stings Coyotito. When they arrive with the doctor, he refuses to examine the baby because Kino can’t pay the bill. The next day Kino sails out with his canoe and dives in the sea to look for oysters that hold pearls. Maybe he can pay the doctor with pearls. He finds a very big one. Now he can pay the doctor, he can marry, Coyotito can go to school, … The doctor cures the boy and Kino says he’ll pay after he sold the pearl. So, the next day he goes to the pearl buyers’ offices. They say that the pearl isn’t worth much. Of course Kino is very upset and he thinks they are cheating him. After a few people have tried to steal the pearl, they flee. They have nothing to lose but their lives, because their house was burned out and Kino has killed a man. But 3 trackers are following the family. They go into the mountains, where it’s more difficult to follow their traces, but they overtake the family. One of the trackers kills Coyotito. Kino kills the 3 men and he goes together with his wife and dead child back to their village where they throw the evil pearl into the sea. Now the have lost everything…
