Why’d I chose this book:

My pianoteacher recommended me this book.

First reaction:

The cover was a bit boring, so I didn’t expect too much of it. The first 20 pages where also a bit boring, but after that, it became very exciting and also a bit scary.

Summary:

Nick Merchant is a heir hunter. He traces heirs to tell them the good or bad news about the inheritance they get. Then he gets a part of the amount of the inheritance. When the 87 year old Gerald Jacobs is murdered, he hasn’t any direct family members, but a fortune of 22 million dollar.

Nick is the first professional heir hunter who is looking for family members of the old and odd Gerald Jacobs, whom’s life was full of mysteries. When Nick and his partner and former girlfriend, Alex Moreno, can find the lost family members, they’re about to make the biggest profit they probably ever can make in their lifes.

But there are more heir hunters that want this big profit. And when it is about such a large amount, it is very dangerous in the world of heir hunters, because their are some dangerous killers and other organisations willing to kill the concurrence.

The detectives from General Inquiry also put everything on everthing to trace the family.
But that’s not all: besides the concurrence there’s a organisation that doesn’t want the mysterious secrets of Gerald Jacobs to be discovered. You’ll understand that it is very dangerous for Nick and his partner.

They have to avoid the bullets and bombs of their rivals and even Nicks house becomes a target. The meaning of it was that when Nick opened the door, a bomb would explode and kill Nick and ruin his home. But Nicks secretary opens his door and is dead. Nick knows that it is very serious and the only thing that can help him is to forget the profit. But he goes on.

Characters

Nick Merchant: the main character in the book. He is a heir hunter, he doesn’t give up even though the job gets very dangerous. He was the formal boyfriend of Alex, but now they’re working together.

Alex Moreno: a brave woman, who also doesn’t give up that fast. She know the job is very dangerous, but goes on. She’s also looking good.

Gerald Jacobs: the “mystery man” in the story. You discover more and more about him when the story proceeds.

Themes

1. Mysteries and secrets
2. Inheritance and succession

Explanation of the title:

It is a very simple title, just where the book is all about: the, sometimes, dangerous job of Nick Merchant and Alex Moreno: heir hunter.

Point of view:

The story is told by an all-knowing teller. Sometimes you’ll read a story when Nick does something, but sometimes you’ll also see what Alex does, or the concurrence, etcetera.

Judgment:

I really liked this book. It is so exciting! What a bit petty was, was that you want to know from the beginning what the secrets are that Gerald Jacobs hided, but you will just find out at the end. Also it was a bit difficult to read, sometimes I really needed the help of a dictionary. For example: I didn’t had any idea what a heir was!
