1. Robert Swindells, Stone Cold, Puffin Teenage Fiction, 1995. First published in: 1993. Number of pages: 132. Library catalogue number: ME.
2. I chose this book, because the title attracted me. I like scary books and this one looked very scary.
3. Link ran away from home, because he didn’t like Vince, his mom’s boyfriend. He went to London. At first he had a place to live, but after a few days he was out of money. That’s why he became a beggar. The first night he was sleeping on the streets his watch was stolen. He meets Ginger. Ginger taught him how to live on the streets. Suddenly Ginger disappeared. Link meets Gail and they became friends. Then they meet Nick, a guy who sells the Big Issue. He tells them that Captain Hook saw Ginger with a man going into a house. Link and Gail went to the Captain to ask the address. Link went to the house. Suddenly a man came out. He was calling his cat, Sappho. Link was soaked and freezing, because it was raining. The man asked Link to come inside to have a meal and a coat. Link was sitting in the living room when he saw a watch. It was his watch. All at once the man stood in the room. He attacked Link. Link grabbed the curtains. Meanwhile Gail was outside. She saw Link fighting with the man. The police arrived and they arrested the killer.
4. The climax was the moment when Link found out that Ginger was disappeared.
5. The title of this book is ‘Stone Cold’. Link is homeless, so he had to sleep outside. That was very cold sometimes. When Shelter, the killer, killed someone, the body was stone cold.
6. The main character is Link. He is homeless. He’s befriended by streetwise Ginger who’s helping him to survive. When Ginger is gone, Link meets Gail, who’s also homeless. Gail helped Link to find Ginger. They’re all flat characters.
7. The theme of this story is friendship. Life is hard when you’re homeless. Link and Gail were helping each other to survive on the streets.
8B. The most important in the book are the writer’s ideas. He wants to show the reader how it is to be homeless. That it’s a hard life. He also wants to make clear how important a real friendship is.
9. – The scene when Shelter was trying to kill Link was very exciting. - Link reminds me of my mom, because he never gives up just like my mom - When I was in Paris, I saw a lot of beggars. No one wanted to give them some money. That was the same situation as in the book.
