Summary

The story is about a girl called Janet. She lived in an orphan house, but she was a very small girl so she was bullied by the other children. One day there came two people to the orphan house, who were interested in Janet. They took her to their home the same day. Since that moment Janet lived together with Sanford and Celine Delorice. Celine sat in a wheelchair, because of a dancing accident. She was totally not interested in Janet’s life. Celine thought Janet had to become a good ballerina, because Celine never had the chance to become one herself.

Her new house was enormous and her room was also very big. She had to go to a new school, but there she had been bullied too. After school she always had to go to the dancing lessons. She never had free time or a moment to spend with her new friends.

After a lot of lessons and experience Janet had to go to an audition for the ballet school. Celine thought Janet would succeed easily, but everything went wrong in the audition. Janet couldn’t go to the ballet school and Celine was extremely disappointed, and later on she became very angry with Janet. Nobody could help Celine to become less angry, so there had to come professional help.

Later on Sanford told Janet it would be better if she left the family. Celine wanted Janet in her family because of the ballet, and that was the only reason. Janet had to go to an orphan house, just where it all began.

Main persons

Janet: She is a young, vulnerable girl, who just wants to become happy. She is bullied by everyone because of her height: she is very small. She would do everything to have a normal life and a normal family, but unfortunately her life isn’t as beautiful as it could be. She does everything to make her family happy, but in the end it is all in vain.

Celine: She is a woman who is not disappointed with her life. Everything she wanted to become, was not possible anymore because of the dancing accident. She is hurt and wants to use other people to make her dreams come true. She is strictly and everything should be done as she wants.

Sanford: He is a lovely, handsome person who wants the best for everyone. He cares passionately about Janet and finds it difficult to see everything happen. He is not able to do anything about it. In the end Sanford has many regrets about taking Janet into their family.

Opinion

I think this was a good book. In the beginning it was a bit tedious, but later on it became very exciting. When I was reading I couldn’t stop, so I think that is very positive. There were some sad moments in the book, but I think that makes the book just more exciting.
