Analysis
Roald Dahl had written his childhood. When you are a male child then you are a BOY. Also is BOY a nickname for him made up by his mom.
Roald Dahl is a boy who spent his life with a lot of brothers and sisters.
His father died when he was young, so he is brought up only by his mom.
He is also a sportive boy, because he was the captain of the squash team.
Roald was a boy who was also pretty cheeky because he putted a dead mouse in a candy pot.
Harald Dahl comes out of Norwegian who moved to France because he could get better opportunities to make good. He met a nice French girl with whom he is getting married to. It is a smart man and can make easy money. When his father died, he was 73. Roald was 3 years old at that time. So his father was very late making children.
Sofie Magdalene Hesselberg is a strong woman who also comes out of Norwegian. Harald took good care of her. She got four children with Harald, 3 girls and one boy (Roald). She is a strong woman because her daughter and man died in the same month and she didn’t kill herself or got a depression.
The story takes place during 1916-1936. You know that because of the following examples:
Page 14
‘In those days fuel meant only one thing. It meant coal. There was no oil burning motor ships on the high seas at that time.’
In the beginning of the 20 century there were only coals.
Page 101
‘How fast will it go?’ we cried out. Will it do fifty miles an hour?
This is about a sport car. Fifty miles an hour was in those days very fast.
Page 23
‘All this, you must realize, was in the good old days when the sight of a motor-car on the street was an special event and it was quite safe for tiny children to go tricycling and whooping their way to school in the centre of the highway
In these days it is very dangerous doing that.
There are many places in this book. The story plays in Frnace, in Norwegian and especially in England. But most of it plays in the village Llandaff
