Summary:

When David was a little kid, he was a big fan of Batman. He even dressed up like Batman with a cloak made out of curtains. His mum says that he can’t fly and Batman neither. David wants to prove wrong and jumps out of the window on one high. Then he wakes up and his uncle Mike is there. He and David’s mum bring David to the hospital and David has a broken leg or something. David’s mum promises that she will be back that night but his uncle reminds her that she has got an appointment. Very strange. Then his mum doesn’t show up later that night.
At school, there is a new girl named Cathy. David is in love with her but he is already with Josephine.
Every day he brings Josephine home, and then he runs trough the park to walk with Cathy.

When it’s a few days before Christmas, his mum and his aunt Enid a fighting. His mum threw a package of flour in her face. Aunt Enid runs upstairs crying. Uncle Mike is angry en try’s to get David's mum but she avoids him. David treated his uncle with a knife. His uncle is going away and David’s mum and grandmother are trying to take away the knife, but he refuses. Then he starts to cry and let the knife fall. His mum leaves the house and comes back after New Year.
Then he is thirteen. He has got twenty-five cards but there isn’t any card from his mum. With al the money he’s got, he is going to buy a rifle. He likes to shoot.
Then he goes to the swimming pool and falls a sleep. When somebody wakes him up, he has an erection. The man is kind of furious and David must come with him. When the attendant locks himself and David up, David wants to know why. The attendant must check it wile de cops is coming. David must take out his pants and the attendant will check it. Then the door gets opened en David runs away, home. His mum wants to know why he is home early. David tells the whole story but says that it happened to a friend. His mum is furious because she knows it happened to David. She goes to the swimming pool and takes a deep talk to the attendant. The attendant is sorry and David’s mum made a treating.
David’s girlfriend Joan Taylor wants to kiss him and go further. She wants to have sex but Davis doesn’t want it. Then he goes home and his mum discovers lipstick in David’s neck. She wants to know everything about it and gives David a condom. Then she goes away.

When aunt Enid is cleaning the house, she finds the condom in David’s room. She is very pissed and asks to David how he has got them. He denies that there from him. Then his mum shows up and says she gave them to David. His aunt is furious and his mum doesn’t wants that his grandmother get involved.
David wins an award for a sculpture he made. He wants his mum to come look at the sculpture but when it’s so far, his mum isn’t there. And that breaks his hart.
At home he has to do al the work because his mum is never home, his grandmother is ill and his grandfather isn’t really handy with al that working.
One night he wakes up because someone is calling his name. He sees that is three o’clock. When he looks out of the window, he sees his mum covered up with blood and scars.

When David’s grandmother dies, he has to make a decision. Staying with his mum and move to a new house or going with his grandpa to the house of his uncle and aunt. He chooses for his mum and then they move to a small apartment. They don’t have much money and so David doesn’t go to school anymore but steals his food in shops and the rest of the day he stays home. When he got snapped while he was stealing food, a man offers to hold David while the shop-owner goes calling the cops. The man let him go and David runs away. Then he meets an old man who offers to eat with him. He goes with him but eventually David gets sick and they go to the home of the men. There he throws up and the man gives him a towel. He falls a sleep and wakes up when the man is trying to kiss him. He refuses and tries to jump of the balcony. The man says that he would let him go but David jumps.
