Sir Isaac Newton
Sir Isaac Newton was an English physicist, mathematician and astronomer. He wrote a few books that influenced the history of science a lot. For example, he wrote about gravity and the laws of motion, which became the groundwork for classical mechanics. He discovered the fact gravity when he was lying under a tree and an apple fell down.
He also invented a telescope, which led to further investigation of light and color. He also did something for mathematics.
His father died when he wasn’t born yet. His mother remarried another guy and eventually his uncle and grandmother raised him. When Newton was ten, he went back to his mother. At the age of 18 he studied in Cambridge, where he learned about the theories of many other scientists. Later he became a teacher in mathematics there. He wasn’t an Anglican, but a member of a religion that was not allowed in that time.
One of his most famous quotes was that he was standing on the shoulders of giants. He meant that he couldn’t have done the investigation he did, if the people before him didn’t already discover so much.
