Abolishing of the burqa in the Netherlands, yes or no?
Many people talk about it. Should it be forbidden to wear a burqa or not?
First of all, what is a burqa?
The burqa was established in Afghanistan. A burqa is a garment for very religious Islamic women. It’s a garment which covers the whole body including the face. Believe it or not but there’s also something which is called the Burqkini. It’s a swimsuit for Islamic women. It looks like a diving suit but it also has a part which covers your hair.
Why should we abolish the burqa?
It’s not good to hide women. They are also allowed to show their beauty. It’s mostly not the Islamic women but the Islamic men who wants his wife to wear a burqa. That’s because the man doesn’t want other men to see his “beautiful” wife. Their religion says that a women’s hair is holy so you shouldn’t show it. First it was also to protect them from the heat, cold and sandstorms in the deserts. This is already the first reason which supports abolishing the burqa. In the Netherlands we don’t have temperatures above 50 degrees and below –20 degrees and we also don’t have those big deserts. The climate in the Netherlands is changing quickly because of the greenhouse affect but it’s not yet got far that we should wear a burqa.
If you abolish the burqa it will be exiting to wear a burqa. It’s just like alcohol. How many children drink alcohol before the age of 16? And why do they do that? Just because it’s forbidden. They think they are cool when they do that. So if you abolish the burqa people will go and wear one just to show they are “cool”. Imagine, this everyone in this school walking around in a burqa!…
If the Dutch government were to abolish the burqa they would do something which is against our constitution, which says that we are a free country, free to show what we think, and free in our choice of religion. If the government were to abolish the burqa they would stop Islamic women from demonstrating their fait. The law also says that everyone should be able to see who you are.
A burqa, as I told before, covers the entire body and face. If someone is wearing a burqa you can’t see who is under the burqa. You think it’s a woman but maybe it’s a man or even a terrorist. I also think that it’s difficult to have a conversation with someone who’s wearing a burqa. You can’t see if she’s listening to you. And many people can see when someone is telling the truth by looking in their eyes. That’s not possible if someone is wearing a burqa. To make things clear you make movements with your face. That’s not noticed if someone is wearing a burqa.
Wearing a burqa while walking down a street is also dangerous. Drivers mostly look into the eyes or face of someone to see if he/she is watching.
At school it’s forbidden to wear a cap so why should one be able to wear a burqa? Exactly, we shouldn’t.
But abolishing the burqa is also disrespecting another culture. It’s like telling those Islamic women you may practice your religion but demonstrating it is illegal. If wearing a burqa is illegal nuns and monks also shouldn’t be able to wear their clothes either! And what do you think about the Taliban? If we abolish the burqa the taliban will probably not accept this. There will be more attacks in the Netherlands.
I believe:
We should abolish the burqa in the Netherlands. There are more and stronger arguments for than against. Covering the whole body is wrong. Everyone should be proud of who they are and they should be able to show it. It’s oppression of females. If the people don’t accept the abolishment the burqa they should stay in their own country where they can wear one. And they shouldn’t complain about it. After all, this is the Netherlands and not an Islamic country.
