I live in Curacao, a popular vacation destination. Whenever I walk around the city I can’t help but notice the contrast between the newly built establishments aimed at tourists being built right next to old, and otherwise uncared-for buildings. I think to myself: “Does the tourist not see what I see? Do they look at the island with such rose-tinted glasses to not be bothered by these sights? Or are they ignoring these less appealing buildings just like they do with other ‘less pretty’ aspects of our society?
