A festival comes in many forms. Though many people imagine colours, lights, music when they think of festivals, a festival is essentially a celebration of life, in one way or another. For example, the Mantillas procession in Gran Canaria is a celebration of the life of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary, a worshipful procession of women and girls in elegant white shawls. This, too, could be called a festival.
